Consider this list of accomplishments:

owner of landscaping company; owner and operator of three used-car dealerships; gym trainer; founder of the Austin Music Co-Op; creator of an Austin halfway house for single mothers; owner of a $50 million real estate portfolio; angel investor and small business incubator; mayoral candidate; and author of “Long Term Greedy.”

Most people would be happy to manage one or two of those accomplishments in a lifetime.
Restaurants are opening up all over Austin. So many, in fact, that it can be challenging just to keep up with all of the new additions. But a restaurant is not the easiest enterprise to start: it takes significant capital, a thorough business plan, and a lot of savvy. Not to mention a good location and a creative idea. Oh, and these days, a strong social media presence is de rigueur.

Our recent series focusing on innovative food and drink in Austin concludes with a spotlight on drink.well, a newcomer to the Austin restaurant scene that seems to have done everything right so far. drink.well is a new neighborhood American pub on the North Loop. The drink.well food menu features familiar classics with unique twists, like chicken sausage and waffles, a delicious Texas Kobe beef burger, and home-made twinkies with innovative flavors. And that’s just the food – drink.well has a long list of signature cocktails and an extensive beer selection.

Husband and wife team Michael and Jessica Sanders started their restaurant adventure in 2012 after moving to Austin from New York. Tune in to hear more about what brought them here, where drink.well is serving it up, and why this place should be on your list of restaurants to visit in Austin.

Did you know that packaging materials account for nearly two-fifths of all the trash in the United States? And that every year Americans throw away 39 million tons of paper and paperboard, 13.9 million tons of plastic, and 10.9 million tons of glass? That is a lot of waste.

in.gredients co-founder Christian Lane is helping reduce those staggering numbers by opening the first package-free, zero-waste grocery store in the country. And it’s right here in Austin! in.gredients, a new micro-grocery on Manor Road, will reduce waste and provide quality local food options for East Austin communities.

Listen to our conversation with Christian Lane to learn more about innovation at in.gredients. By encouraging pre-cycling, developing a unique volunteer rewards program, and even hosting local music performances, in.gredients is going to change the way Austin thinks about the local grocery store!

A net-zero home is, as it sounds, a home with zero annual net energy consumption. Achieving net-zero consumption requires a combination of conservation methods and use of renewable energy sources. There’s an exciting new company in Austin called Altumaxis that specializes in the creation of net-zero energy solutions for homes.

Altumaxis is innovating in the home space by helping to build new homes that fit the net-zero model and also are harmonious with nature. The company’s areas of expertise include solar power solutions, energy efficiency engineering, and wireless energy management.

Shey Sabripour, founder and CEO of Altumaxis, stopped by to talk with the Austin iLab this week. Not only did he discuss how Altumaxis achieves its results, but he shared from his intriguing background. Let’s just say it involves spacecraft design…

Austin is the live music capital of the world. In order to attend most of the great live events here in Austin, you need to purchase tickets.

This week the Austin iLab sat down with some of the team from Front Gate Tickets – Neal Gilbreath, Business Development Manager, and Brendan Moore, Product Manager – to hear more about how Front Gate Tickets has left an imprint on the ticket solutions space. For starters, they’re an independently owned organization, unlike Ticketmaster. And they use ticket selling software on multiple platforms- mobile, web and elsewhere- to create a ticket purchasing process that is as streamlined and efficient as possible.

That’s not all Neal and Brendan talked about. Listen in to our conversation with Front Gate Tickets to hear about how another great Austin-based organization is helping to shape an international market. Front Gate Tickets is the last company featured in our month-long SXSW focus on innovative media start-ups in Austin.

Adam Moore is no stranger to the start-up space. He started with Springbox, a full services interactive marketing firm with offices now in Austin and Los Angeles. His latest venture is SpaceCraft.

Less than two years in the making and launched earlier this month, SpaceCraft is a web publishing platform for small businesses. To assist its clients, SpaceCraft builds successful web presences by curating content and curating other content that airs on social media airwaves.

One of the most interesting aspects of the Spacecraft product is its responsive design to site output. Spacecraft web design works everywhere, whether you’re viewing sites on your computer, your mobile phone, your tablet, or your television. And that’s only going to become more crucial as all these devices become more important. Check out what else Adam Moore had to tell the Austin iLab about his new product.

Moolala provides daily deals targeted directly to its diverse user base. Beyond competitive offerings for its members, Moolala also offers a unique payback system, called the “Paymatrix,” which helps give back to its users.

This rewards program provides two percent cash back on all purchases, forever. And all purchases made by the friends you refer.
